On Saturday 4 October 2025 from 10am until 2pm, BH Live is hosting a brand-new ‘Try Five’ event at Charter Community Sports Centre .
This event is made possible thanks to funding from Sport England’s Place Partnerships programme, which provides resources to communities most in need, helping more people discover the benefits of an active lifestyle.
It will be packed with family-friendly activities to get people of all ages moving, laughing, and trying something new.
From Bollywood Dancing, Family Circuits, Chair Exercises, Gym Circuits, and much more, residents can dip into a wide range of free activities. From testing your strength in pull-up challenges, exploring indoor games, or taking part in outdoor multisport sessions (weather dependent), there’s something for everyone.
Representatives from BH Live Active and the NHS will also be in attendance, offering free health checks including height, weight, blood pressure, and BMI checks. Gym inductions and a tour of Charter Community Sports Centre will also be available for those looking to explore their local leisure centre’s facilities.
Every participant will receive a ‘Try Five’ stamp card, collecting stamps as they try the activities on offer. Those who collect five stamps will be able to enter their card into a FREE prize draw, where they can win a selection of prizes*.
Other activity providers include Portsmouth Phoenix Volleyball, Funk Format, Mama Zee Boxing, and many more.
Charter Community Sports Centre is owned by Portsmouth City Council and operated on their behalf by registered charity and social enterprise BH Live.
Carla Earle, Portsmouth’s Community Sports Manager at BH Live, said:
“Try Five is all about giving everyone, whatever their age or ability, the chance to enjoy moving more, discover something new, and connect with others in their community. It’s fun, it’s free, and it could be the start of a healthier, more active lifestyle.”
BH Live is committed to creating welcoming, affordable spaces for the whole community to inspire more people to improve their health and wellbeing, which is one of BH Live’s charitable aims.
BH Live Active concessions include discounted activities and memberships for individuals in receipt of selected benefits, as well as low-cost activities for individuals who hold an Access Card or Portsmouth Leisure Card.
Health and wellbeing programmes are inspiring more people with long-term health conditions to get active too, offering supported group and 1:1 sessions to inspire more people to participate in physical activity.
Children can also enjoy free swimming for under 12s at all BH Live Active swimming pools in the city to encourage more young people to learn a skill for life.
