Get race day ready!

Get race day ready! Here are five handy tips to prepare you mentally and physically for the Vitality Bournemouth Bay Run taking place on Sunday 24th March 2024:

  • Plan to arrive 30 minutes earlier – There’s nothing worse on race day than getting stuck in traffic. Planning to arrive as early as possible will allow you to get in some extra stretches and keep you stress-free! Consider taking the bus or train to beat the traffic or walk or bike where possible to get in an early warm-up.

  • Prepare for the weather – There’s no planning when it comes to running in the spring! Be prepared for every eventuality by packing some warm, waterproof layers in case the weather turns. Wear lighter wearers underneath to plan for particularly sunny weather.

  • Establish a pre-race routine – It’s important to create a pre-race routine that works for you. Whether it’s by getting up at a certain hour or eating breakfast at a certain time, make sure you start the day off on the right foot by feeling mentally and physically prepared. You might have already created some key habits of your own as part of your training journey!

  • Stay hydrated – Did you know most runners sweat between 400ml-2400ml per hour of exercise? Whatever pace it takes you to cross that finish line, make sure you drink around 500ml-1000ml two hours before your race to enhance your performance. Staying hydrated pre-workout can help prevent cramps, headaches, nausea, and even muscle soreness.

  • Have fun! – It’s easy to get upset if things don’t perfectly or if you don’t beat your personal best. Remember that every race, be it good or bad, is another experience you can learn from and another step in your running journey. Run at your own pace, and make sure to marvel at Bournemouth Beach’s beautiful scenery!
