- Join us for a free open weekend at Pelhams – unveiling exciting new facilities
Residents are invited to check out the brand-new gym and group cycling facilities at Pelhams Park Leisure Centre located in Kinson, North Bournemouth.
Over the summer holidays, the first-floor gym and group cycle studio at Pelhams have been completely revamped to create brand-new bright, welcoming, and accessible facilities for all.
There is a special open weekend on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September between 8am – 5pm. Residents (aged +16) are invited to try out the new gym for free. Furthermore, there will be centre tours, free public swimming sessions, have-a-go tennis and football, plus food and drink promotions in the centre’s Terrace café.
Over the open weekend, visitors (aged 18+) will be able to arrange a free one-day guest pass for another visit - T&Cs apply see website for details. There will also be membership incentives for individuals and families who are ready to kick off their autumn and embark on a more active lifestyle for better health and wellbeing.
Pelhams is a popular community leisure centre with a large gym, two swimming pools, daily classes in its three group exercise studios, 3G rubber crumb football pitches, outdoor tennis courts, a café, FeelGood Factory, and more. There is lift access to all floors and accessible family-friendly changing rooms.
In the improved gym, high-specification cardio fitness equipment appeals to those looking to improve their overall fitness, strength, and mobility. Strength training has been powered up with new lifting platforms, plate-loaded machines, and functional equipment. There is also improved space for pre and post-workout stretching, and mobility work.
Furthermore, the centre’s group cycle experience has been relaunched with brand-new high-spec training bikes from TechnogymTM, with interactive features, plus MyWellness and Myzone fitness tracking.
Pelhams has been operated by the charity BH Live in partnership with BCP Council since 2010.
This transformation, coupled with the recent reopening of BH Live Active, Queen’s Park, new attractions at Littledown and Sir David English Sports Centre, plus other essential investments at other local leisure centres, demonstrates how BH Live, as a registered charity, uses any surplus to invest in local facilities for the benefit of the community.
Rob Cunningham, BH Live’s Associate Director of Leisure said,
“As a registered charity, one of our ambitions is to provide inclusive, motivating, safe and welcoming spaces for people of all ages and abilities and enjoy their leisure time and focus on improving fitness, mobility, strength, physical health and mental wellbeing.
“Pelhams is already an incredibly vibrant community leisure centre. However the improvements we have made have totally transformed the health and wellbeing offer in North Bournemouth.
“A big thank you to our customers for their patience while we’ve carried out this investment, the team at Pelhams for their hard work, and our partners who we work with to deliver local services. We can’t wait to hear what our customers and community think.”
Councillor David Brown, BCP Council Portfolio Holder for Health & Wellbeing welcomes the investment. He adds,
“As a visitor to Pelhams Park Leisure Centre myself, I know how many local people in North Bournemouth benefit from the facilities. With this significant investment in the gym and group cycle studio I am sure that more people will be able to improve their health and fitness as well as joining a great social community to live life to the full.”
The open weekend on 9 & 10 September (8am-5pm) is free to attend and no booking for activities is required. However, spaces are limited and on a first come first served basis.
