Registered charity and social enterprise BH Live has revealed more about its £1 million investment into the health and wellbeing facilities at Bournemouth’s BH Live Active, Littledown – the town’s flagship leisure centre.
Following customer feedback, the charity’s investment will transform the centre's gym with brand-new fitness equipment, dedicated recovery and wellness spaces, and a refreshed modern environment designed to enhance the overall customer experience.
The upgraded gym will feature Precor cardio and strength equipment, plus plate-loaded strength training equipment, and a new EGYM smart fitness studio offering personalised, tech-enabled workout experiences. Dedicated recovery and wellness areas featuring Reach Wellness equipment will be introduced, creating more opportunities for customers to support their health and wellbeing both during and after exercise.
A new innovative functional fitness zone will incorporate sled tracks, ski erg, and wall ball stations. As part of the refurbishment, the gym will also benefit from improved flooring, lighting and décor throughout to create a fresh, modern and welcoming space for members and visitors.
The refurbishment will be carried out in phases over a six-week period during November and December 2026. The gym will close fully for two short periods, with partial gym access for three weeks between them. All other facilities at Littledown Centre will remain open as usual. Customers can also use alternative BH Live Active gyms across Bournemouth and in Corfe Mullen.
The refurbished gym and new EGYM studio are expected to reopen in late December 2026. The reopening date will be confirmed as work progresses.
Further information about the refurbishment, including key dates and alternative facilities, is available at bhliveactive.org.uk/news/littledown-gym-upgrade.
The investment forms part of BH Live's ongoing commitment to investing in community leisure facilities and reinvesting surplus income into services, facilities and programmes that help improve health and wellbeing across the region.
