Mountbatten Leisure Centre celebrates bumper programme of community events

From swimming galas, athletics competitions, sports days, and festivals, the Mountbatten Leisure Centre is a community hub supporting clubs, schools, and event organisers from across the city.

Since January 2024 more than 110 community events have taken place at the Mountbatten Leisure Centre, including sports days, swimming galas and festivals. This has attracted thousands of people in addition to the 30,000 attendances to the centre’s facilities every week. Furthermore, there’s a packed schedule of events set to take place at the centre later this year.

As of July 2024, Mountbatten has hosted 14 swimming galas and more than 45 athletics competitions, including national championships, local meets, and sports days. Local arts and culture festival, Ports Fest, also took place at the centre earlier this summer.

Upcoming events include Portsmouth Vegan Festival, a Fight For Cancer boxing event, and Portsmouth Tattoo Fest.

Mountbatten Leisure Centre is owned by Portsmouth City Council and operated in partnership with registered charity and social enterprise BH Live.

On behalf of BH Live, Matt Low, Portsmouth Cluster Manager, shared;

“It’s fantastic to host so many amazing community events at the Mountbatten Centre. Supporting local schools, clubs, and event organisers is so important. It encourages more people to participate in physical activity, back local businesses, and engage with the community. We look forward to hosting more events later the year.”

Cllr Lee Hunt, Cabinet Member Community Safety, Leisure & Sport at Portsmouth City Council said:

"The Mountbatten Centre is a thriving hub of community sport and leisure activity, as demonstrated by these impressive figures.

“As a council we work hard to support and encourage healthy lifestyles in all our communities, and consistently promote positive physical health and activity so it's brilliant to see so many community events being hosted so far this year. Thank you to BH Live and teams from the council who work hard to make this happen"
