- Stokewood revamped and new facilities open
A project to transform the poolside changing facilities at Stokewood Leisure Centre has completed.
Following customer feedback, BH Live, the registered charity that operates leisure centres and venues across the BCP region in partnership with BCP Council, pledged to revamp the centre’s poolside female, male, and accessible changing rooms.
Work began earlier this year to install new shower facilities, toilets, vanity units, and lockers. Specialist contractors also fitted new flooring and energy-efficient LED lighting to create a fresh and modern feel.
The charity expanded its original renovation plans by plugging additional funding to refresh and reopen the male gym changing rooms in the centre.
As a registered charity, BH Live invests any surplus back into community facilities and activities to encourage participation in physical activity. These improvements are just one example of the charity’s £1m investment last year to improve local leisure and cultural facilities across the BCP region.
On behalf of BH Live, Rob Cunningham, Associate Director of Leisure and Business Development said;
“We want to thank everyone for their patience whilst the works to improve Stokewood’s facilities were underway. The renovated facilities look fantastic and we hope they will encourage more people to visit and use their local leisure centre to support their health and wellbeing.”
Stokewood Leisure Centre opened in 1930 with a swimming pool and bathing facilities for the local community.
The centre now has a gym over two floors, exercise studios running daily classes, its swimming pool and poolside spa facilities.
Activities are accessible via a BH Live Active multisite membership or on a pay-as-you-go basis. BH Live also offer concessions for people on low income and discounted health and wellbeing programme for people living with long-term health conditions.
