Wimbledon Park Sports Centre gets upgrade

Following a 10-year partnership extension with Portsmouth City Council, operator and registered charity BH Live is kicking off a year-long programme of leisure centre investment across the city, starting with a much-needed upgrade at Wimbledon Park Sports Centre.

The centre is popular with local schools, community groups, clubs, and visitors, who use the sports hall regularly for training, free play, and competitions.

Following customer feedback, its changing rooms are being upgraded to consist of new toilets, changing cubicles, showers, sinks, lighting, benches, and a fresh new look.

Work begins on Monday 6 April 2026 and is estimated to take up to four weeks. The changing rooms will temporarily close during this time, with customers encouraged to arrive ready to train and shower at home. Temporary toilet facilities will be available.

Other proposed investments as part of the charity’s extended partnership with Portsmouth City Council include changing room improvements and a refurbished gym and group cycle studio at Mountbatten Leisure Centre; the introduction of Reformer Pilates at the Pyramids Centre, and an upgraded gym at Wimbledon Park Sports Centre. More detail including timescales for these projects will be shared later this year.

Wimbledon Park Sports Centre is owned by Portsmouth City Council and is operated in partnership with BH Live, a registered charity and social enterprise.

On behalf of BH Live, Rob Cunningham, Director of Leisure and Business Development, shared;

“We’re pleased to be moving ahead with these improvements at Wimbledon Park Sports Centre which will ensure the centre’s facilities continue to meet the needs of the local clubs, schools, community groups, and visitors who enjoy sports and recreation there.
“We will work hard with our contractors to get the improvements completed as quickly as possible and appreciate customers’ patience while it’s underway.”
